Subject: Re: Radio and Turbo Design in 9-5

In my 1998 900, the SE comes with an upgraded system, including small component subwoofers in the doors. Unlike your '89, my '98 and models around that (I think all NG900, 9-3, 9-5) have that "built-in" Saab system. The radio display also is used for the trip computer so I can't begin to imagine the headaches you'd face if you removed it. As a matter of fact, I find the sound really clear, well defined and solid. It is definitely not a $15,000 6000 watt aftermarket competition system but it is much better than many of the lower stock systems found in other cars. More than a few of the people who have sat in my car have commented on how good it sounds. I understand the SE models do radio upgrades that are available to non-SE models at an extra cost. Whatever the case, after looking and hearing the 9-5SE, I don't think (or can't think of why) they will change the format. It works. Good luck with whatever you do. It would be a shame is you nixed Saab for your next car because of the radio.
