I recently developed whining in my 94 900S...Shaw correctly diagnosed it as a timing chain. They replaced it...and the problem has disappeared. Interestingly, for the first few miles afterward, I got a sporadic "check engine" light...which I assumed was the car getting used to the new chain. It also disappeared.
