In fact, >most women could care less what car you have, als long as it's clean, doesn't >smell, and doesn't break down. i think you'd have a hard time arguing that a woman who admires bmw (and the type of man who buys them) would be equally attracted to the honda civic package that you mention. face it, most guys who buy bmw are paying for a lot more than the sum total of engineering and performance built into the car. they're paying a substantial premium for the prestige of the marque, and in my experience this willingness to greatly overpay indicates a fundamental materialistic bent. and that materialistic streak is at least as strong in most women who want bmw's. these women are not apt to be drawn to a honda civic, basically because it lacks the prestige. i'm not saying these people are wrong; but you can't deny they're different from the more frugal and practical types who -- even when having substantial wealth -- choose more basic transportation. don't dismiss the sexual partner concept as silly until you really think about it. i'll bet that practically every item you choose to surround yourself with, and to represent yourself to others -- whether car, clothes, home, furniture, hobbies, etc. -- makes a consistent pattern of statements about you and your character. and whether you have a mate already or not, these statements are going to attract a certain type of partner, and not attract others. this is usually not a conscious process. but you choose the things you like, and you generally want a mate who likes most of the same things you do. if you examine your own choices, and those of your buddies, you'll probably see the truth in this. and what about the guy who buys a simple '88 cavalier because he doesn't want his car to be a "statement?" well that's a statement in itself. unfortunately, he's got to live with the type of woman he's going to attract... stuart
