Okay here is the deal most of you diagnosed the problem correctly. It is a broken water pump. About 3 weeks ago I noticed a rattling noise near the AC and Water Pump area. I assumed it was makin noise because the AC was drained and it was real close to the AC. Turns out I can physically shake the pulley wheel (even with the belt there) with about a 1/8 inch of slack on the water pump which indicated a cracked seal. So John was right it is a cracked seal and I was told by my mechanic that I have to fix it myself because it was a quick fix. he also said that I should replace the thermostat and that would improve performance. I forgot what the manual calls for as far as temperature (No need to check though I have the manual. --- But the idea was that the original thermostat is fine when the car was new but a new thermostat works better he said 184 F the manual calls for 82 C I think. This is the best newsgroup and I love my car for just this reason. people are intelligent, savvy and want to help people. I have made $100 worth of repair and the car has double in value. Swear to God.) Anyway thanks to all of you, and goodnight Ryan Kindseth On Sat, 24 Apr 1999, Ryan Kindseth wrote: > When I first starting driving this 1985 SAAB 900 I filled the coolant with > 50% antifreeze and water. > > After one month the fluid is all gone and my temperatrue climbs at will > (obviously cause there is no water!) > > What does this indicate?
