1-Since the beginning of the post , my position is to ignore the statistics on car accidents ( not datas in general) because they are very deceiving and seldom allow a buyer to evaluate the safety of a vehicle since those datas depends on thousands of variables such as driving style, yearly mileage ...... 2-Age is only part of the equation driving style in an accident : insurance companies give discount on college students because they are safer drivers for example. Other variable : cars that are driven a lot such as rental cars for example ( Lumina , Taurus...) are more likely to be involved in an accident. Many other variables are not being considered by HDLI. Consider this : how would you explain that 3 identical cars ( Chrysler Cirrus, Dodge Stratus and Plymouth Breeze ) have totally different HDLI relative injury rate : Cirrus 81, Stratus 100, and Breeze 115 !!!!!!! What about the Nissan Maxima ( 106) vs its identical twin the Infinity I30 72 ) IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE!! 3- Performance of crashes tests ARE REPEATABLE ! How would you explain that 2 different orgnizations in Europe ( EURO-NCAP) and in the US ( insurance institute) show identical results for the same car ?????? 4-Crash tests are scientific : they are using deceleration datas of the head, the chest and legs to mesure the risk of injury : nothing is more straightforward than that !
