Subject: Re: Headgasket question

Pat: Thanks for the information. I went back to International Motors in Falls Church, VA today, and double checked what had been their first diagnosis on my '92 900S. The folks in the service department were great about showing me exactly where the leak is, and what to watch for in the future. I'm actually looking forward to getting the service done with in a bit. The problem with MY car was that between 1993 and 1997 it was driven only 5000 miles, and the coolant just SAT there, growing more acidic (?) and eating away at the head gasket. The damage was done when I bought the car in July of 1997 with 15,000 miles. I just wish I had listened to them in the first place rather than looking for a cheaper fix, which a local repair facility was happy to give me. I think I may have been taken for a ride on that one, but at least I know what to watch for in my car in the future. (And I won't be needing ANOTHER distributor any time soon). Again, International Motors' Service Department has proven themselves to be of the highest courtesy and integrity and have earned my loyalty for the lifetime of my car. It's much better to do the job sooner then later. If the : gasket is seeping antifreeze for a long time you can get serious : corrosion of the block deck surface. The repair then becomes less : reliable. : Pat --
