Thanks for the reply, You were right on, three of the cells in the battery had collapsed. We have just had a rapid change in temperature over here (for us that is) from about 20 degrees C down to about 2 degrees C the night before the car died. My mechanic reckoned that this is often the trigger for a worn out batteries cells to collapse. Alternator was not doing it's job either. So one rebuilt alternator and a new battery later and everything is running fine. Regards, Gerard...
