Subject: Re: HELP !!!! To those with 9-3 Lease experience

Well, it seems the current Saab-sponsored 9-3 lease is not quite as attractive as mine was. However, that really is the factory-sponsored lease deal. Taxes to be paid depend ENTIRELY upon your state's law. It used to be common to pay sales tax ONLY on the payment amount each month. That is quickly changing since tons of folks are leasing and states are therefore losing a major revenue stream. My "acquisition fee" (a loan fee which raises the effective interest rate) was not nearly as high as that, but again, the standard deal has changed. These fees are quite normal, however (though still a blatant fraud to get around the stated interest rate). The "down payment" (cap cost reduction) is only $2000. The rest is deposits, fees, and 1st month's payment. I don't personally like capital cost reduction payments. The point of a lease is to have the balloon payment at the back end of the deal, not the front. If the money factor (semi-equivalent to an interest rate) is still near what mine was, you're a fool to put any money down. Mine worked out to well under 2%. I think the current one is still under 3%. You can make more than that in T-BILLS! Why would you waste it (the "down payment") on a depreciating asset when you can make it work for you instead? Leases are so heavily subsidized these days that it sometimes makes better sense to lease as a way to purchase a car. Remember a few other things: 1)You negotiate a price independent of how you pay for the car. So many people only see a payment figure and they forget they could've bought the car for $1000-$2000 less money. That lowers your cost on a lease, too! Negotiate the price. THEN ask them about a lease (based on that price). 2)There are other lease companies. Check them out. Saab's may be the best if they're subsidizing it, but you should still find that out. 3)If you drive more than the allotted miles, how much do excess miles cost? Saab does not give a discount for buying miles in advance like most places do. DO NOT BUY EXCESS MILEAGE FROM SAAB UP FRONT! $.15 per mile in 3 years is far cheaper than $.15 per mile now. HTH!!
