I'm looking to buy a 900, 80s, with over 100k on the clock. The garage I talked to in London pointed out that 8v engines are more plentiful from written off vehicles and so quite a bit cheaper than the 16v, and also when they go wrong they are less complex. For that reason I'd myself be happy with an 8v. I'm not after performance but low bills with a car this age, so I would not buy a turbo either. I'll probably buy a twin carb one.
