Hello all SAAB people, this is a short description of my SAAB. It's a -89 900 Injetion 16V 3 door color black with A/C and sevaral options including mag wheels and road holding kit. It was manufactured at the finnish plant in Nystad and sold by a major dealership in Stockholm. I'm the first and only owner and the oddometer now says 150 k miles. I do most of the maintenance my self and has just completetet rebuilding the rear breaks and replacement of rear discs. The car has let me down twice: At approx 100k miles the fuelpump suddenly stopped working, it was quite easy to replace but expensive, I guess these things just happen and cannot be prevented. It happened right in the midle of my vacation but very fortunate just outside the place where we were staying. So it was just two more day at this place before the local dealership had managed to get hold of a replacement unit. Also at 100k miles, alone in the dark wilderness (sort of) with a cargo of 300 punds of froozen meat all of a sudden the charging goes dead. After about 10 minutes the voltage is lower than what is required by the electronics so the engine dies and everything becomes quiet. Lycky for the meat we are in the middle of december so no real panic. A phone call and we manage to "jumper cable" the car back to our friends. It was the generator brushes that was worn beyond contact. A new unit was pruchased at the friendly local SAAB dealership for to many $$. I replaced the charging control electronics/brush unit and way we go. This unit certainly has a predective service life. So I recomend all of you to check it out for brushwear. It is very easy to remove located at the backside of the alternator/generator. Like most things on this somewhat reversed and awkward (spelling?) car it can be a little tricky to access. It looks like a transistor but contains the whole charging electronics and the brushes. There are a lot of third party vendors, so don't waste your hard earned bucks at your friendly (?) dealer. I'm not realy a SAAB man, but I like my car and it has been very relaible and I do plan to keep it past 200k miles. / Ulf
