I'd 2nd this too .... mine started rattling and I was advised to have it changed. When they got round to doing it, it turned out that that a secondary chain (the balance chain?) had snapped and wrapped itself round it's sprocket. Normall;y what happens is that it also takes out the main chain and there is then a meeting of valves, valve guides and pistons ina rather catastrophic way! I live in the Uk where prices are higher than the US and mine cost me around £700 to fix (~$1100) and that was a really good deal... I had other quotes ranging from £1200 to £2500. Even though mine is 7 years old and has done 130,000 I figured that the money was worth spending as I'd get an engine that would last for another 250,000 miles and anyway if I scrapped it I'd only have to buy another car.
