Subject: Re: Buying a 1990 Saab 9000

Turbo owners can broil me now, but most of the Saab mechanics that I've spoken with recommend going with non-turbo vehicles. Yes, there's more performance; yes, they still will go the legendary Saab distance (knew an aircraft mechanic with a turbo 4 door with 190K miles...), but.... The turbo will mean more maintenance expense over the long run. More cooling fiddling, additional systems complexity and higher insurance premiums. OTOH, I drive a non-turbo 1980 99 with 315,000 miles on the clock. Compression is good. Cooling/overheating is not a problem (in the currently 90+ hot & humid NE). The 900 is a different kettle of fish in many ways from the 99, but not all that different. As far as the price goes, that still seems a little high, but in the ball park for a three door *if* the body/interior are in excellent condition. Look at http://www.kbb.com for the blue book values--I believe that it also goes by zip code for regional variations in value. -Erik Miller '80 99 2 dr 315K '75 99 2 dr 205K '75 99 4 dr 190K On Sat, 31 Jul 1999 04:54:30 -0800, bamaterp <bamaterpnopsamo.com> wrote: >I am contemplating buying a 1990 Saab 9000 Turbo hatchback >for my daughter.
