There are no guidelines in the manual anymore. But I suppose taking it easy the first few km's will do fine. >And I don't think a 4 or even 5% slope is such a big >deal. My little Mitsubishi Colt 1600 doesn't even >hesistate on such slopes, without downshifting from 5... > Well a Ford Focus 1.6 has the same problem. This 1100kg car has 100hp. So the power to weight ratio is about identical, as is the very tall gearing in 4th and 5th. And don't look suprised, but every magazine I read mentionned, that whenever, the road started inclining by however much you needed to downshift. So don't feel you're the only one with the problem. >Maybe it just had the wrong level of expectation from >a (expensive) car like the Saab ? > Well cars got heavier and heavier the past 20 years. We now have gotten to a point where a 2.0 in a 1300kg Saab 9-3 is really starting to get underpowered. Mark Gerritsma (amgATddsDOTnl)
