Jared, As has been stated, an entry-level 9-3 is a *very* competitive car at it's pricepoint--almost unbeatable. Think about the fact that basically the same car sells for well over $40k as a convertible. The A4 is a very nice car. I've driven a friend's V6 Q a number of times and love it. But it's small, almost to the point of being cramped, and his was over $30k. The new 3-series are IMHO beautiful cars, but your budget will be obliterated with a quick trip down the options list. Saabs come *much* better equipped. And I have to echo the other comments about load carrying capacity, the 9-3's hatchback is huge. I love them. If you care for your Saab it will last a long time. Engines routinely go over 200k miles; the 4 cylinder turbo is well-proven. Transmissions have been fragile in the past, but the 5-speeds on the transverse-engined cars (9000, NG900, 9-3, 9-5) have proven to be nearly as stout as the engine. Real world injury and fatality data, particularly from Europe, show Saabs to be the safest cars sold. Period. So the body structure isn't in question. I drove my 99 EMS for nine years without any significant repairs. I traded it on an '87 9kt which I'm still driving, again without significant repairs. If I've got a reservation about another Saab (and I'm in the market) it's because of the dealer, not the cars. So there you have it, a biased vote for a Saab from a Saab owner. --Rick Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Share what you know. Learn what you don't.
