Also spracht sCOOTer <ptgrunnernopsamhlink.net>: > The Viggen sure looks nice in the pictures I've seen. It does. I was completely unable to resist it when I saw it at the dealership. That did it. I walked in ready to commit to a 9-5, but once I saw the Viggen, there was no way I was going to leave there without testdriving it. I couldn't even believe they had one. > I've not driven one, but the publicized performance disappoints me, > the 0-60 mph mainly. I'm a very moderate driver actually, but there > are times that some brute force is required. Especially, in Northern > Virginia where every Red to Green turns into a drag race. Well, I can't speak for the publicized performance, but I can speak of the real life ride. One word: whoa. The turbo kicks in at about 2,000 RPM, and the only thing I can compare the kick of the car to is a Porsche. It also doesn't have the annoying turbo lag that plagued earlier Saabs. I took off like a missile down Commonwealth Avenue in Boston going about 75 in third gear. I don't think it's so much a "drag racing" car, but it's more of a performance touring kind of car. Brute force? No. Get an old Impala or Chevelle for that. Then again, what Saabs are big on "brute force" anyways? Hair raising speed and handling? That's more like it. In my opinion, it's for people who'd consider a BMW, but love Saabs. I guess it's kind a niche market, but there you have it. > I love my 95 Saab 900 Turbo Hatchback, but can you actually say the > the Viggen is worth the $38,000 price? I'd enjoy hearing from you > on that and any other comments about Viggen. Best to Email me directly. I thought the best thing about the Viggen was the way it handled - nice and tight. The reviewers have a point about the torque giving a "wake up call" to the steering, but let's face it: 225 horsepower and 250 foot pounds of torque from a 4 cylinder 2 liter is a lot of torque at 3,000 RPM. And the invitation to the "Flight Academy" in Atlanta was kind of enticing, too. Speaking of flying, the car is also quite low to the ground. I guess it's inevitably going to get a little scuffed before I'm done with it. -- {}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{} \|/ {} RogerW rogerwnopsamguy.com {} 0< -- parrot.net! {} http://www.parrot.net adminnopsamot.net {} ^^^^(*)^^^^ {}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{} ^^ / \ ^^
