There is apparently a service bulletin for the clutch cable -- it was announced in the last issue of Nines (Saab Club of North America magazine). It is supposed to reduce/eliminate the binding and early breakage. Disks should not need replacing at 80,000Km. I had over 50,000 miles on my '94 when I sold it, and it was just on its 2nd pair of pads. I'd ask the dealer to have Saab cover them (or at least part of the price) under warranty. A heavier car might need softer pads for better braking, but shouldn't need softer disks! The linkage to the transmission is a bit softer/rubbery, but I don't think the tranny itself is weaker. My '98 Turbo does just fine! -- John R.
