The information about the 900 transmission came from me. I picked it up at a Saab transmission class given by John Moss. John is the head of training for Saab USA so I think the source is good. Based on what I remember from the class (un-official, offered to come in on a Saturday and teach a bunch of nuts about the internals of a transmission......nice guy or what?), it is possible to swap transmissions between the various years although it is not always a "bolt-in" replacement. Although I don't think they change the interface between the engine and the transmission case, the drivers are different sizes on certain years. There you are going far beyond my level of knowledge. Please realize, my memory sucks and I am in no way an expert on this. I do recall this portion of the class well because it may be the only portion I truly understood. It can be done, you just need to be careful.
