We had a compressor replaced in an 1989 900 two summers ago. Our local shop tried & failed to locate a used or rebuilt compressor. We had the option of either replacing the compressor with a new unit, or converting the entire system to the new, environmentally-correct "green" freon that involved replacing a whole bunch of other parts. The cost difference between the two options was only about 50 bucks, so we opted for the "green" conversion. After all, the ozone layer we saved might be our own. It was still expensive -- about $1200 if I recall, but cheaper than the divorce. By the way, the "old" freon (R11 or R12, I can't remember which) is no longer being manufactured (in the US), and the only supply is from recycled material. The "green" freon is widely available, and much cheaper.
