Subject: Moldy cars

I live in Hong Kong and own a 1992 Honda Civic and a 1995 SAAB 900. They are always parked in a covered car park. I recently returned from a five-week vacation business trip. In the time I was away, which is always a hot, humid, rainy time here, the Honda acquired a strong moldy smell as well as visible mold on the steering wheel and plastic instrument panel. The Honda has cloth seats. The SAAB was fine: no mold, no smell. It has leather seats. Both were locked shut the whole time with the windows up and the A/C vents closed. In both cars I left a couple of those moisture-collecting dehumidifying plastic pots they sell in the stores here. So any ideas why one is moldy and not the other, and what I can do about the Honda (besides selling it, I mean). I go away every summer for several weeks and this always happens. Geoff Waters owned many SAABs over the years and never had a bad one
