Subject: Re: acceleration problem

Dear Paul, I had the same problem on my T16 for ages and tried various solutions these included changing the plug wires, swoping air mass meters, adjusting the timing, cleaning out the throttle body, cleaning out/unblocking the EGR valve, raising the fuel pressure, replacing the air box with a bolt on filter and removing the centre silencer. I eventualy solved it by changing the turbo bypass/hooter/dump valve - although I had removed and tested it a number of times. As soon as I did this I had completely smooth and progressive acceleration with no flat spots or hesitation. The biggest givaway is if there is a hooting/wailing sound as you hit the flat spot or when the boost guage is at neutral. It seems the spring in the valve was not strong enough to close the return airpath when the pressure in the manifold starts to build. Good luck John
