Subject: Coolant Problems

Just pulled the water pump off my 89 Grand Am 2.3L DOCH Quad 4 and it looks good. Water going through block, radiator and all the lines ok. With the water pump off I blew through the uper radiator hose and had no resistance to water coming out by the virticale hose under the pump, I also poured water trough the block ok. I have replaced the thermostate before pulling off the water pump and this did nothing. When engine running the radiator never got hot and the upper radiator line stayed cool however the heater for internal cabin temprature works real good. I'm at a loss, could it be a pump priming problem?? During operation the car slowly incleases in temp to about 150' F for about 15 miniutes bobbing up and down some with the fan. Then When Fan can't keep up it stays on for about 5 Minutes, then shuts off and stays off. Then car overheats within a few muinutes up to 220' F (with no radiator fan.) unless the cabin heater is turned on full then temp can be regulated Thanks kevnmelnopsamht.net
