Subject: Re: What's the story with the 9-3?

Owner: jet-black 5-dr automatic '99 9-3; special wheels, sunroof; leather [Previously-owned:'79 5dr-900T standard] Experiences: joy, admiring stares from Japanese luxo- mobiles, Volvo owners, truck drivers, and teenage girls; pride, fun; confidence at teaching my 15 year-old to drive in a car she'll also drive which is safe, fun, and beautiful. 11.4 l/100km gas mileage, city driving. Panic at how to keep the surface swirl-free and protected from road salt/sand. (choice of surface protection) Concern that the bottom will fall out of the resale value for no good reason tempered with reason where, if the Plan works out, my daughter will take the long-tern keeper-Saab to university and beyond while I have the new Viggen. Minor concern: which snow tires to buy. Immediate projects: Sound enhancement for (1) dash-mounted speakers (which should be tweeters only) and (2) new door- mounted, high quality, mid-range speakers, matched with the tweeters; cargo net. Longer term: rack, either for roof or tail; probably Thule. rear mudflaps and spare, water-catching, winter-only, rubber floor coverings. Scented dice for rear-view mirror. Small head-bobbing dog with light-up-eyes for rear deck which activates with the signal lamps/brakes. Various stickers from European soccer clubs. Fear: Some idiot will bang/scratch a door (or what have you) in a parking lot. Or some maligned kid will rake a quarter or a switchboard along the paint. Teachable moments: off-ramps and on-ramps where front/back seat passengers receive instructions on how to actually *use* the headliner-mounted hand grips to stabilize theselves (esp on the leather seats) as the Europeans do. Looks funny; and is especially so when all do it at the same time. But works surprisingly well. * Sent from RemarQ http://www.remarq.com The Internet's Discussion Network * The fastest and easiest way to search and participate in Usenet - Free!
