It sounds to me like either the current or previous owner was a moron, and maybe they had a moron for a mechanic. It's totally possible to lunch a tranny in 75,000 miles, and usually it comes from people who don't know how to shift. I would not sweat that part - but I would have it checked out by the local dealer and make sure all the service bulletins on that 2.1l engine have been taken care of. -Justin
