Hmm... curious. I'm not too sure about the cruise control in the 9000CS... or indeed the UK Saabs... but I've had this problem before with an old '92 Subaru Loyale I used to drive. The cruise control was powered from the vacuum system rather than electrical... and basically what had happened was the vacuum hose had sprung a leak. It was really kind of odd, but once I replaced the hose it worked fine after that until the car was totalled in early '98.
