Get somebody to press the clutch down, or a bit of wood pressing down the pedal and jammed against the seat, (bit of old brake pipe seems the bestfit) under the fingers of the housing to get the thing out. I have found that a new plate and housing will go on without having to do this as the fingers go back far enough to get the release bearing in afterwards.
