My initial problems getting it into reverse where right when I picked up ther car. I've since flipped through the manual and plan to read it thoroughly. > be in reverse when you remove the ignition key. Gears one through four work very smoothly, except for the occasional putting it into first at a stop that you mention. No big deal, it just works in after a couple of gentle re-attempts. I hear from others that my 5th gear popping out problem is probably simply an adjustment. I got into fifth and drove it there fine when I test drove it and so did the local Saab specialist. Now, after I put it into 5th, when I step on the accelerator it just pops out. The car was sitting for a while before I bought it, so I'm hoping a few adjustments will fix the problems. I also plan to pick up a detailed Saab maintenance book. I used to buy the Chilton's for my VWs. Someone here mentioned another one for Saab's but I forget the name. I don't plan to rebuild the engine using it, but the more knowledge I have the better. Plus I usually like to do some of the mechanical work myself. I look forward to a long and fun-filled relationship with my 1984 Saab 900S. It only has 103K miles on it, so from what I hear, I should have it for a while. -johnw -- john s. webster the vortext group -- writing svcs. 218 waterman st. #306c providence, rhode island 02906 phone/fax: (401) 273-5567 email: jwebsnopsam.net ---------------------------------------------
