Your SAAB agent is correct in saying that it is a very rare occurrence. I know quite a few SAAB owners but not one of them have had this problem. I've had seven SAAB's and the only chain that I would recommend looking out for is the overhead cam chain. I've replaced this item on two cars, both at around 100,000 miles. To be fair though, it does give plenty of warning Have you ever heard one of the pre transfer chain engines when it was a train of transfer gears? The rattle on idle was just unacceptable.
