Anyway if something gives enough cause for concern I am sure they would eventually do something about it. One thing we have to remember though is that SAAB is extremely short on resources at the moment. The rumours about variable compression turbo engines, and the 9-2 still seem like just that, rumours. Every now and then we read about something exciting in magazines that sadly never sees light of day. Pictures of the 9-2 for instance have been around for a year or so now yet no news about production or release date. The latest one is that GM want SAAB to build off-roaders ala Landrover discovery, since they feel it fits in best with SAAB's image and market. I think they have lost the plot completely! As an interesting design point, I myself felt that the rear suspension of the 99/900 would have been better if proper trailing arms where used without the dead axle i.e. the arms would need 2 mounting points behind rear seat ala ford IRS as on sierra. Variable camber etc could then be achieved via multi links at the top of the hub. In a book I have on the history of SAAB they mentioned that for the 99 they where going to develop proper trailing arm suspension but didn't have the time and money to do the development. The set up they used provides great rear end stability and comfort anyway. If you have any ideas post away, I would love to hear them. Yours, Neil.
