I would suggest that you check the local papers and dealers for prices, Also check out web sites such as www.autotrader.co.uk or your counrty equivalent to get the best idea. You should pay less from a private seller than a dealer, but you have very little come back in the UK if you buy a duff car IE it's sold as is. Same applies to auctions too. However if you do decide to buy privately or auction take somebody with you (act as a foil to stop rash desicions!)and don't always buy the first one you see.
