The tranny is shot! in a good trans you should get a distinct jolt ( at least with worn mounts) between shifts and there should definitely be no hesitation upon starting in D. The trans If the car is from a sales lot, see if they'll sell or give you a warranty, then get the car with the intention of replacing the trans. Otherwise, it takes about $3000 US for a rebuilt TRANNY job......... remember there are alot more good one out there for a good price; my 88 9000 with 112K miles cost only $2300 with a good tranny and nearly impecable appearance( with the exception of a few mech glitches).................
