Subject: Front Suspension Noise in Icy Conditions
Dear Folks,
Last winter, I had this horrible crunching noise whenever I'd drive over a bump
(at any speed) when the car would be sitting outside in below zero Celsius (<32
F) for at least a few hours. It's a bit like the sound of snow crunching on an
icy cold winter day, except it has the weight of the car coming down on it. It's
as though there were packed ice somewhere in the front suspension assembly. It
is usually okay after about a half hour or so of driving, depending on how
intensely cold it is outside. Now that we've had a few very bitter cold days
lately once again this problem has returned.
The service department manager at my dealer tried lubricating the bushings but
it made no difference. I was hoping that I might count on your collective
experience and expertise to provide him with some suggestions of things to look
at. He wants to keep my car outdoors overnight and drive it himself to hear it.
Any ideas would be welcomed and appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Michael
