Subject: Re: 1995 900 SE Electrical Problem?

Hmm... doesn't the 900 have a sensor that turns off the dash lights during the day regardless of the headlight setting? I get the funniest feeling that it does... but I could be wrong. I've certainly never noticed if my dash lights in my 96 are on or off... but during the day it does look like they're off (I drive it with the headlights on all the time... just a habit I got into while I owned a Subaru :) ). Perhaps if that's the case then the sensor is bad? It sounds though like you have more general electrical problems. Tried replacing the battery yet? I know from old experience that a slowly failing battery can cause no end of hair-pulling trying to trace weird and wonderful electrical problems before finally dying. In my old Grand Am (sold about 3 years ago now), I started having odd little problems, including the radio randomly changing stations while driving, headlights going off while driving at night, the ABS light coming on for no reason, and finally the doors randomly locking and unlocking. Sounds odd... but it seems that the battery (when it was tested) was dropping low in amps for a few seconds, then suddenly spiking and dropping a few times in quick succession before returning to normal use. This threw out all the electrical systems in the car and drove me nuts for weeks. I replaced the battery and all of the problems went away. Strange but true :)) Fix the simple things first... at least if it doesn't fix the problem you haven't thrown a lot of money at troubleshooting! -- Gavin Haslett thumper_svxnopsamo.com "The early bird gets the worm...
