Mike, It sounds like you need a new mechanic. If you go to www.saabnet.com and click on FAQs they have the directions for resetting your basic idle and the throttle position sensor. Print them out and try it yourself. When I bought my 87 9000S 5 spd two years ago, I had a similar problem with idle fluctuation and stalling on deceleration. My saabtech friend replaced a vaccum hose, cleaned the throttle body/plate and reset the basic idle and throttle position sensor. You might want to invest in a Haynes Manual for the 9000. I have one and it is very handy. You can find them at www.hdrogers.com. The last time I looked they were $24.50 plus shipping. Make sure all or your vaccum hoses are in good shape the connections are tight.
