if you have a black or dark coloured car... this is for real, i learnt it whilst working as a valeter in the uk. wash the car thoroughly. apply kerosine to a clean rag (same as you would use for polishing). wipe over the all painted surfaces. allow to dry. (in case you are worried, i often wash my car using only a bucket of warm water with a table spoon of kero) rub over this your normal polish (not sure if the new silicon type polishes work using this technique) now apply your bumber shine (or amour-all or whatever) to your rubber trims. whilst doing this rub over any polish you got on the trims. when the polish is dry, buff it off as per normal. you should have a streak and buff mark free finish with no polish on your trims. i'm no longer a valeter so what do i care about trade secrets. this finish will sometimes even improve the look of light coloured cars.
