Subject: Where the hell is the wiring splice located for the rear brake lights on a 90M 900T Cab??

I have a 1990 900T16 cabriolet where the rear centre brake light cluster (on the rear spoiler) comes on, but the main panel brake lights do not. Injecting +12V into the main cluster (directly) makes all the rear brake lights come on, but not the centre light, so it's obvious that the splice where the voltage is tapped off for the main and centre clusters has failed. Problem is, where the hell is the splice? The wiring for the centre cluster is bundled with that for the boot solenoid and number plate lighting, and disappears somewhere near the rear seat. The plastic tubing that carries the rear wiring harness to the tail light assemblies runs along the centre cross-member in the boot, heads towards the rear seat, and disappears. At a hunch I'd say that if I take out the rear seat, all will be revealed. But will it? How do I know the splice well be there and not all the way at the front of the dash? Does anyone have any experience at knowing where this is? Personally I think the use of splices in the wiring harness is an absolutely STUPID idea and ruins what is an otherwise excellent piece of design. A connector, I can see. A splice isn't even mentioned in the "location" section of the repair manual I have. -- Alcohol and calculus don't mix.
