You are my knights (in > shinning SAAB armour!) > > Chris > The 900 HCV is somewhat notorious for breaking down. And the result of it is usually you get the sweet smelling coolant all over the floor in the driver's compartment. My guess is either the HCV or the heater core. The heat core don't usually leak. But it could be clogged. On the 900, the coolant connections through the firewall are by the brake booster. The top connection is for the coolant going in and the bottom coming out. I suggest you do this. Disconnect both coolant hoses, hook up your garden hose to the bottom connection and force running water into the core until you see clear water come out from the top connection. If the reason you don't get heat was simply your heater core was clogged, the above procedure should correct it. If it's the HCV, it's $75 from Sobstory. I did it in November on my 89 900S. It wasn't the most easy thing to replace. I had to remove the front driver side seat to do it. coxinga -- Coxinga/ The 17th century warlord, son of a pirate, who was bestowed the last name of Ming emperors.
