Subject: Re: Oil Pressure Light

<Snip> Brian, Couple of things to consider Check all the wiring to the switch, not loose, broken, damaged, grounding out somewhere giving false warnings. Switch ok? not damaged? If ok then........ Is the oil old ie have you recently had it and the filter changed, if not I would suggest thats a good place to start. Suggest spending alittle money on some flushing oil too. Oil pressure warning lights come on when the pressure drops to somewhere between 20 and 0 psi. The hard acceleration causes surging in the sump (oil pan) and the pump is not lifting the oil, suggesting that the oil is either low or the pump is getting abit worn out, how many miles the car done? Coming on when you parked on a hill suggests again the oil is low, was the car hot at the time?. Did this occur when the car was cold? What kind of oil are you using if you are using a modern low viscosity one like 5/30 it maybe abit "thin" Try a good quality 20/50 unless you live somewhere so cold you need to use something thin. You can, or get a garage to check the oil pressure using a remote mechanical guage this way you will know for definite whether the pump is ok or not - involves taking the switch out of the engine and screwing in a guage. Cheaper way of finding out than stripping the engine Hope this helps, Malc Scotland Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
