Subject: On the verge of purchasing a Saab 9-5 Wagon

Speak now or forever hold your peace. Help me folks. I have been driving a 88 9000T for about six years. Absolute love affair, except she got some rust on her a few years back. Being a loyal type, and knowing that I have some rust on me, too, I stuck with her. But now I am having a hard time getting her out of the, er, garage. I think she's leaving me. So that means I am leaving her. Which brings me to my present decision. I'm looking at a 2000 Audi A6 Avant. Love lots of things about it. Really like the 4wd. Also looking at the poor man's Audi (read: VW). The 2000 Passat GLX Wagon with 4wd is almost here. And wdn't that be a nice way to save a few bucks? In the middle of all this, I stick my hands in my pocket and shyly stroll back into the Saab dealership. Well look what we have here! It's my baby! And she's a wagon! So I step in and she takes my breath away. Wd you like a test drive, sir? Huh? Oh, yeah, sure (I am a Minnesotan, you know.) So we drive. And I am very impressed, especially when I push that little s button. Why wdn't we just leave that one on all the time, I wonder. Anyway, I am slipping into my old ways again, but I have a few questions: 1. It's a Harmon-Kardon, or however you spell it. Very classy, very expensive, very "big room." (See Ruthless People.) But it didn't really knock me out. Does anybody else have any reaction? Was I missing something? 2. Methinks the cabin was pretty noisy. Was me overreacting? 3. I kept thinking that 4wd was a priority. (Minnesota, remember?) Hence Audi and VW. But, as I drove this wagon, 4wd wasn't such a big deal anymore. Now I notice that there are rumors flying about a new Saab wagon 4wd? The age-old newsgroup question: Ahhhh, how long before, ahhhh, that 4wd comes along, and, ahhhhhhh, I mean, ahh, that is assuming that there is going to be 4wd? [Stoke up dem flames!] Anything else I am missing? Thanks to all of you truly lovely people (or, if you prefer, you cold, detached, techy, monosyllabic Scandinavian-types) for your responses. Matt Forsgren
