Subject: Weird Problem

I have been experiencing an unusual problem with my SAAB 900i automatic (1990). Though it starts OK first thing in the morning, once I engage drive it becomes lumpy and stalls. It will run OK, though a little 'grumpily', in neutral. If I let it run for 5 minutes, stop it and then return in 2-3 hours it starts and runs perfectly. A mechanic has looked at it but can't find anything wrong; he checked the Bosch air management unit and said it was working (he did find that the water temperature sensor was faulty) Any suggestions?
