Subject: vibration question

i have a feeling the answer is "of course" but has anyone had a pretty annoying vibration at idle that turned out to be something like a loosely mounted alternator? that leads me to my second question. i have a pretty "high frequency" vibration at idle that you can feel in the brake pedal and steering wheel. it could be bad motor mounts making a mild vibration more pronounced (haven't had them checked). also, wherever you touch the motor you can feel it, but if you touch the alternator it's a little more pronounced AND, my alternator is not solidly mounted. you can move it a tiny bit back and forth (i know this sounds bad). i just noticed it today and in my shirt and tie i couldn't figure out where the mounting for the alternator is. all i can see is the adjustment arm. if anyone can tell me where i might be able to tighten it up please let me know. and if you know the bolt size that would really help, especially if i have to fish around to find the bolt. oh, the car is an '89 900 T (which may soon be renamed "the money-pit") thanks a lot. leone ps i actually think i might have a "big" problem with this vibration. it's driving me crazy. i picture the engine just falling apart. and with garbage (kyb) shocks it's like having my ass directly in contact with the road :-0 the bent alloys don't help either (i feel like job) could the vibration come from the steering rack? it was replaced by the previous owner. doesn't leak but sometimes i get vibrations on the highway that i figured were due to the tires.
