Subject: Bad turbo??

Usually a shot turbo will cause missing that is unmistakeable under heavy acceleration, not just low boost. From the SAAB Service Manual: Symptom: Boost pressure too low: a. Leakage between compressor & cylinderhead or turbine & exhaust. (Check for leaking pipes &tighten all connections.) b. Incorrectly adjusted charge pressure. (Check & adjust boost) c. Wastegate sticking open. (Clean and lubricate wastegate. Replace if it cannot be made to move freely.) d. Partially clogged exhaust system. (Check exhaust system especially in the catalytic converter. Replace faulty components. DON'T pay $800 -$900 for an OEM replacement. You can get universal replacement cat converter for < $150.00 at a good muffler/exhaust (NOT MIDAS) shop.) e. Clogged air cleaner (Replace element) f. Binding Turbo shaft (Replace turbo) g. Faulty APC component (Test knock & pressure sensors, & solenoid valve. If no faults possible bad APC unit.) Also, check ALL of your vaccum line connections and if you have not replaced your spark plugs and wires, and rotor and cap for many miles that would be a good thing to try. Do the cheap stuff first. You can buy a new turbo from AirResearch in Phoenix for about $500. The actual rebuild of the unit I am t old by a friend who did his own is not too bad a job. Good luck. Steve
