Subject: Re: Purchase Saab Convertable

The old 900 convertible is the classic SAAB convertible, itīs a very personal car with huge characteristics - hate it or love it - thereīs nothing in between (I love it, amazing road holing capabilities, a very present (turbo) engine, a very stiff body compared to the later SAAB convertibles ). The newer 900 convertible is a very nice GM convertible with lots of problems, especially the V6 engine and the (electrical - not hydraulical) roof operating system, the road holing and the crash behaviour was far below the things seen before from a SAAB. The 9-3 improoved a little but i prefer the classical 900 convertible - if you only use it as a good weather car and enjoy driving cars with a present engine than thatīs the perfect car!!! If you decide for a classical 900 then you should have a close look at: roof cloth (worn above rear windows?)- a new one will cost 4000 U$ AC- often leaky power steering - loosing oil? engine - valve cover gasket (oil on exhaust) , very often but cheap to repair AIC and vakuum leaks - rough idling, stalling after full throttle, difficult to find shock absorbers - especially the road holding kits (blue Sachs shocks) are worn at 60000miles - change!!! gear box - gear popping out at 1or R DONīT TAKE AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION!!! take a turbo stick shift! Take a 1992-1994 cause they are equipped with airbag systems! The rest will last FOREVER!!!
