All 3 of my 900's did this to some extent. More noticable if the tank is near empty or the seats are folded down? It turned out to just be normal - never a fuel-pump problem with my 80, 83 or 89 900. In the 80 - when the tank was near empty, the engine would cut-out on hard left turns, but SAAB fixed that in 81 with a baffel in the tank. The whirring sound was always there though.
