Subject: 88 saab 900- can't figure it out!

I have a 1988 900 that I have had very little trouble with in the year and a half I've had it. But recently it has been giving me fits! Sometimes it runs great; but sometimes, when I start it, it will get the initial gas and rpms, and then come immediately back down and die or it will sputter (from the engine, not exhaust), and i will get some blue exhaust. Usually, when this happens, I can race the engine enough to keep it running, and slide it into first. Once I get moving, it really doesn't seem to have a huge problem. (sometimes it will try to sputter back out when stopped at traffic light) I have changed the fuel filter, the air cleaner filter, and replace the PVC grommet. With each one, it would seem to help, but then the sputtering would start right back up. Anybody have any ideas?
