Subject: Re: cd changer question

Are you in the U.S.? That makes a difference. I am, and I put a changer in my 94 900s. It's fairly straight forward. All you need is a changer and (if you want to mount it in a slick way) the mounting braket which you can buy from your dealer. The factory CD changer for the 900se WAS the Clarion CD605. However, Clarion no longer makes that changer. Instead they now make the CD635, which works great. The only thing is that the CD635 doesn't fit perfectly in the mounting braket, which was designed for the old changer which is bigger. I don't know what changer the dealer would sell you now if you went to them. I do know that I saved a couple hundred dollars by NOT buying my changer from the dealer. You also may be able to find a used CD605 around somewhere. Unless you want to get fancy, you need a changer that has the proper interface cable (which has a round DIN connector.) As I understand it, the two Clarion changers mentioned above are the only changers with that interface. I mounted my CD635 by drilling four holes in the Saab mounting braket to bolt on the smaller changer. It looks good and works well. In order to install your changer all you need to do is cut a hole in the felt lining of the trunk and pull out the cable for the changer, which is already there, factory installed. Then mount the changer to the mounting braket and mount the braket to the side of the trunk using bolts that are already there too. The instructions that come with the mounting braket are easy to follow. In summary: -Buy the CD635 CD changer from a third party (or try to find an old CD605) -But the mounting hardware from Saab -Mount the changer to the braket by making some slight modifications -Mount the assembly to the side of the trunk following the instructions that came with the mounting braket The following web page is helpful... http://saabnet.com/sites/richard.bevan (Note that he seems to be in the UK, but everything looks to be the same. He has a good picture showing the CD605 (old) changer mounted using the Saab mounting braket.) Happy Saabing!
