Mark, Conventional Wisdom states that a taller profile tire will 'soften' the ride, but it would be a hit or miss activity based on the spring rate of the tire in question. Most manufacturers will not allow this information out. The proven way to soften the ride would be with different shocks or springs. As springs are a bit more difficult to change out (especially in the direction of softer springs as most after market springs are stiffer than OE), I would suggest different shocks. I do not know what is available in the UK, but I would go to a reputable Saab place and ask them if a particular spec of shock would be available which would soften your ride.
