Subject: Re: Interior Problems

Leather is something special. It starts to dry out pretty fast, then it cracks... You have to distinguish between "cleaning" and "feeding" the leather. To clean the leather one can take nearly every car cleaning solution, if the leather is dark or black you have to be carefull and try at a not visible surface if the solution lightens the leather when it drys up. Wash out all of the cleaning solution again (but donīt use a waterhose when you donīt have a hole in the floor to dry the car again...) Be gentle an donīt scrubb too much on the leather surface or youīll scratch it, the cleaned leather gets very stiff and firm. After cleaning (donīt do that too often) you have to recondition the leather, that means you have to bring all the things into the leather again that the leather needs. There are several solutions available, lots of them contiain softeners, vitamines, UV protection, fat....(someone said: leather was originally built to keep a cow together...) That helps keeping the leather clean, smooth and firm. Apply this very often when the leather suffers from the sunlight (UV) e.g. convertible.... Recondition it at least 2-3 times in the summer to keep the leather in a good shape, when you clean it before more often. Thereīs a special solution available for horse riding equiptment itīs called "Effex - Leather Combi" that should be the best available product but I donīt know where to buy it.
