Subject: Multi-clutch probs

I bought a 91S last fall with only 87K on it. Aside from a tiny oil leak and some coolant loss it is fine. New tires, brakes, exhaust---the owner put more than a few dollars into it. From the beginning the clutch would occasionaly 'engage' with the pedal at the floor---usually, only when cold. No prob there, I could usually 'pump' it and get it to engage/disengage higher up---figured it was a slave prob or needed a bleed and I put up with it as I only drove it 2K since September. Plus, it improved after a bit of driving. However lately (occasional at first, not so occasional now) I will try and put the pedal down and it is locked/frozen at the top! Oh, if I really put some weight on it, it goes down, but it is kinda scary. It does not happen with the engine off and often doesn't happen till I engage the clutch for the first time?! (I take off fine, then its frozen at the top for my shift to second) I 'thought' the frozen/locked clutch first happened in the damp/wet---I'm not sure. I also improves with driving. So what's up here! Are the two problems related? [Clutch won't dis-engage/then is frozen at the top] Will one fix, fix both? I don't believe the clutch has ever been 'smooth' from a dead stop---it seems to engage rather 'abruptly'---maybe thats just a SAAB thing. Plus, the car had a completely rebuilt tranny at 67K for $4,000! The non-SAAB shop that did it has a pretty good SAAB certified guy there and I've spoken with the previous owner (he seems like a good guy---even offered me a ride back from the shop!) and he didn't have this prob. His rebuild was 'cause the synchro went out and he spent to much time 'starting' in second and blew out the clutch). Thus I have only 20K on a 'new' tranny/clutch?! This can't be unique but I haven't seen the exact same combo of things in searching Deja. Michael Glaser ***Please reply to both addresses:*** mitchvisnopsame-link.com mitchvisnopsamnet
