I had this problem at christmas with my 96 900XS, it turned out the air flow sensor had all but packed up and was either choking or flooding the engine with air. This got progressively worse until eventually the car would stall at every junction where the clutch was depressed. I have no quick fix,it took a dealer to sort it out for me !
