I see to have had the opposite experience with power on snow and ice. I had an 86 900 with the 8 valve engine, with all of 110 hp. It was great on the snow because it was hard to break the wheels loose with that little power. Maybe that is why Saab never thought of a limited slip differential - it was not necessary. As for the newer Saabs, with the more powerful engines, you can get them with Traction control and a multi-mode automatic so keep the wheels from slipping.
